The yellow-margined box turtle is a designated protected species of Japan which inhabits only Okinawa's Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island, and we want to keep them safe from poaching. That's the logo design for Free Fowls 2020.
Design Concept
沖縄県の石垣島と西表島の亜熱帯の森には希少動物、ヤエヤマセマルハコガメが生息しています。国指定の天然記念物に指定されています。甲羅は甲高のドーム状、頭と手足を引っ込めると甲羅が完全に閉じて「箱」の様になってしまうことから「背丸箱亀」とその名前が付きました。ゲームのキャラクターにもなったりするほど、愛嬌のある姿であるがゆえに心無い人間による密猟が多発し、島外に持ち出され、ペット用として販売されるケースがあとを絶ちません。そんなセマルハコガメの密猟を止めるためにデザインしたのがこのＴシャツです。ヤエヤマセマルハコガメを捕まえてはいけません。ヤエヤマセマルハコガメが幸せに生きていける環境は産まれ島である石垣島、西表島しかないんです。森や道路で出会ってもそっとしておいてあげてくださいね。
The yellow-margined box turtle (Yaeyama Semaruhakogame), is a rare turtle that inhabit the subtropical forests of Ishigaki and Iriomote in Okinawa prefecture, they are also designated as a special natural treasure. Named because of its unique box-like shape when they hide their head and feet bringing the shell to a complete closure. Often hunted illegally by poachers and sold elsewhere as rare pets because their charming characters are often in demand by the market. This T-shirt was designed to spread the information to stop the illegal hunting of yellow-margined box turtles (Yaeyama Semarhakogame). Please do not catch the yellow-margined box turtles. The only environment in which the turtles can live happily is the islands where they were born, Ishigaki and Iriomote. If you meet them in the forests or on the road, please leave them alone to return to their homes.
