Ishigaki Island is the place where the East China Sea meets the Pacific Ocean.
Design Concept
日本の九州、鹿児島県から台湾まで、大隅諸島、トカラ列島、奄美群島、沖縄諸島、慶良間諸島、宮古諸島、八重山諸島と弓のような弧を描いて点在する島々は「琉球弧」と呼ばれる弧状列島です。この琉球弧の島々が海を2つに分けています。琉球弧の北側が東支那海、南側が太平洋です。
Islands scattered from Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan to Taiwan. The Oosumi Islands, Tokara Islands, Amami Islands, Okinawa Islands, Kerama Islands, Miyako Islands, and Yaeyama Islands are called the "Ryukyu Arc" because they are scattered in an arc like a bow. The islands of this Ryukyu arc divide the ocean into two parts. The northern part of the Ryukyu Arc is the East China Sea, and the southern part is the Pacific Ocean.
八重山諸島に属する石垣島は二つの海の「縁(ふち)=edge(エッジ)」に位置しています。島の北側に広がる海は東支那海、南に広がる海は太平洋です。2021年のFREEFOWLSは石垣島の地理をTシャツのデザインコンセプトにしています。３色展開のボディーカラー、微妙に風合いの違う青２色は東支那海の青と太平洋の青を、白は石垣島のサンゴの白砂を表現してます。
Ishigaki Island belongs to the Yaeyama Islands. The island faces two “edges” of the ocean, the East China Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. For FREEFOWLS concept T-shirt of 2021, I designed the geography of Ishigaki Island. It will be sold in three body colors, two shades of blue with slightly different textures represent the blue of the East China Sea and the blue of the Pacific Ocean, and the white represents the white sand made of coral which is common in Ishigaki Island.

「edge」の「d」は石垣島に見立てています。切り込んで細くなっているところが伊原間集落です。
The “d” in “edge” represents Ishigaki Island, the narrow part is the village of Ibaruma.
This is the ostensible concept behind this T-shirt. However,
there is a hidden concept behind it as well.

The hidden concepts
2020年、新型コロナが世界中に蔓延、沖縄観光も大打撃を受けて崖っ縁です。。。「edge」は、その「縁(ふち)=edge」でもあります。FREEFOWLSも2021年は、のるかそるかの店の存続を賭けた危機的状況の中での新作Ｔシャツ発表となりました。そんな重いコンセプトを実に軽快にシンプルにデザインしたのがこの”edge”Tシャツです。
In 2020, COVID-19 spread all over the world, and Okinawa's tourism industry is on the edge of a cliff. “edge” also has such a tough situation as secret concept. FREEFOWLS will be releasing the new concept T-shirt in the midst of a critical situation where the survival of the store is at stake. This “edge” T-shirt is a simple and light-hearted design of such a heavy concept.
